Durham, NC – June 25, 2008:
“Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs!” It’s a familiar refrain leading up to a tasty treat at major league ballparks around the nation. This summer, you can get a few of these signature all-American treats at Nineteen, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club’s golf course grill. Each Wednesday throughout the summer, beginning June 25th, Nineteen will feature a different dog of distinction from a ballpark or region of the country known for their franks. Prices for the special dogs range from $4.50 for The Bunker Bag-a hot dog, chips and a soft drink-to $9.00 for The Big Deluxe, two dogs, chips and an Arnold Palmer, Arizona Beverages’ refreshing blend of tea and lemonade. For more information, or to call in your order ahead of time, contact Nineteen at 919.313.2168.
The Nineteen team has assembled an impressive line-up of franks for its Dog Day Afternoons celebration. First at bat is the New York Street Cart Dog, a Hebrew National all-beef kosher wiener served with onion sauce and deli mustard. Up next is the Chicago Red Hot, a Vienna beef “Red Hot” loaded with diced onions, diced tomatoes, pickle relish, dill pickles, sport peppers, yellow mustard and celery salt, on a poppy seed bun.
Later in the season, guests will see sluggers such as the Milwaukee Brat, a Usinger’s pork/beef bratwurst smothered with “stadium sauce,” sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard. And no roster would be complete without the all-star Fenway Frank, a boiled and grilled dog on a New England bun served with mustard and pickle relish.
Dog Day Afternoons is the brainchild of the Inn’s food and beverage director, Don Ball. Working closely with James Holcomb, manager of Nineteen, Ball modeled the Inn’s Dog Day Afternoons after a similar celebration at the Museum of American History in New York City. “Many of our golfers and guests are also big baseball fans so it was a natural fit,” he explains. “And it seemed like a fun thing to do for our guests this summer.”
Serving snacks and a light breakfast and lunch all day, Nineteen overlooks the driving range and the 10th fairway on the Robert Trent Jones-designed 18-hole championship golf course at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club.
The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is located on the campus of Duke University, only twenty minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport and ten minutes from Research Triangle Park, and is the only AAA Four Diamond hotel in Durham. Nestled on 300 acres filled with tall pines and hardwoods, the Inn is known for its beautiful facility and grounds, 271 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, marvelous cuisine in the Four Diamond Award-winning Fairview Dining Room, the Bull Durham Bar, a Robert Trent Jones-designed 18-hole championship golf course, and convenience to local points of interest. It is set apart from other area hotels and conference centers by its unparalleled service, gracious staff, luxurious interiors and attention to detail.
